Bimatoprost works to replenish the amount of liquid which drains from the eye to reduce the inside pressure. It is most frequently prescribed to treat glaucoma and other conditions that lead to increased pressure inside the eye.
How to take
Bimatoprost should be taken in strict compliance with your doctor’s instructions and directions on the prescription label. Do not change dosage or the prescribed period of use without prior medical consult.
Wash your hands before using the medication and check whether the liquid has not changed its color or revealed any other signs of deterioration.
To use Bimatoprost:
Tilt your head back and pull your lower eyelid to create a pocket.
Tip the dropper down, look up and away from its tip.
Use the prescribed number of drops then close your eye.
Press your finger to the inside corner of your eye to prevent the liquid from draining.
Wait for at least five minutes before using any other eye medication.
Avoid using Bimatoprost while wearing contact lenses, as it may lead to their discoloration. Remove the lenses before using the medication and do not put them back for 15 minutes after using.
Do not let the tip of the dropper touch any surfaces, including your eye, as it might cause infection.
Notify your medical specialist immediately if you have been infected, as well as if you have an eye injury or are planning to have an eye surgery.
If you experience any symptoms associated with allergies such as difficulty breathing, hives, swollen tongue etc., stop using the medication and seek urgent medical help.
Contact your medical specialist immediately if you experience any of the following: vision changes; higher sensitivity to light; eye discharge, oozing; red and swollen eyes; itching sensation or pain in the eye area.
Common side effects of Bimatoprost include: dizziness; slight eye discomfort; dry eyes; watery eyes; burning or stinging sensation in the eyes; feeling as if some particles got into your eye.
Note that this list does not include all possible side effects. Other side effects might occur depending on individual health conditions.
DO not use the medication if you are allergic to it.
Notify your doctor if you have any drug allergies or if your eyes are swollen or infected.
Using Bimatoprost ophthalmic may lead the changes in the appearance of eyelashes (longer, thicker) and the color of your eyes (increased amount of the brown pigment). The changes occur gradually and may be unnoticeable for years. If you are using the medication only for one eye, it may lead to eventual difference between the colors of your eyes.
It hasn’t been identified whether Bimatoprost affects the health of an unborn baby. Pregnant and breast-feeding women (or those planning to) are advised to notify their medical specialist prior to taking the medication.
Bimatoprost is unlikely to interact with any other medications. However, patients are recommended to notify their medical specialists prior to using Bimatoprost of any prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as vitamins and herbal products they are taking.
If you have missed your dose of Atomoxetine, make sure to take it as soon as possible. However, two doses should never be taken at the same time, so if the time for the next dose has almost come, DO NOT take the dose you have missed.
Bimatoprost should be stored in a tightly closed bottle in a refrigerator, away from heat and moisture.
